Red G2X vs. Black G2X

The design of the original G2X (black housing) provides the ability to connect a variety of items to the data logger by means of 8 individual connectors on the data logger housing, with data saved to a top mounted compact flash card.

The new G2X (red housing) now utilizes 4 individual connectors, while saving data to a rear mounted SD memory card. The software for both data loggers remains the same.

Items Included With Each Kit

External Connector Comparison
The G2X black housing locates connectors on both the left and right side of the housing, while the G2X red housing now locates all sensor inputs on the front of the housing, while the rear of the housing is reserved for the SD memory card and serial port. This design provides for a more water resistant housing.

G2X Black G2X Red
Serial – Right side of data logger Serial – Rear of data logger
Display – Right side of data logger Eliminated – Dash now connects to Vnet port
RPM 2 – Right side of data logger RPM B – GMR or external rpm sensor (not Engine)
PWR/TACH – Right side of data logger RPM A – Powers data logger and inputs Engine RPM
BEACON – Left side of data logger Eliminated – If needed, can be added to Vnet input
GPS ANT – Left side of data logger GPS Antenna
AUX – Left side of data logger Vnet

Sensor Inputs
The G2X black housing provides separate connectors for a variety of inputs. The AUX port of the G2X black housing is in reality a Vnet input, providing the ability to connect up to 12 external sensors. The G2X red housing combines the BEACON, AUX, EFI and SERIAL ports of the G2X black into one Vnet port. Both loggers utilize the same Vnet sensors. Vnet Sensors are connected to the AUX port of the G2X black via an AUX to Vnet cable, while Vnet sensors are connected to the Vnet port of the G2X red via standard Racepak Vnet cables.

GMR Sensor Input
Adding a GMR sensor to the G2X black housing requires use of a GMR sensor and second PWR/RPM cable. The power input is moved to the RPM2 input and the GMR and PWR/RPM cable are connected to the PWR/TACH input. The red G2X utilizes a different GMR/connector combination which permits direct connect to the RPM (B) port.

Status LED’s
The G2X black housing utilizes four LEDs to display the status of various functions. The G2X red utilizes two LED’s to display the status of the same four black functions.

G2X Black G2X Red
GPS – Red blinking indicates search for satellites Combined with SATS – One LED on end of housing
SATS – Green blinks indicate number of satellites Combined with GPS
CFC – Status of compact flash card Combined with PWR - One LED on end of housing
PWR – Power to unit and processor Combined with CFC

Memory Card
The G2X black utilizes a 128mb Compact Flash memory card which is inserted into the top of the data logger. The G2X red utilizes a 128mb SD memory card, which is contained in the rear of the data logger and secured by a gasket/holder combination, providing better resistant against moisture.
