The INTELLI-GAUGE line of automotive gauges is designed to compliment the V_Net Series Data Acquisition Systems and Sensor Modules.  Rather than requiring a separate sensor, these gauges obtain their information from the RacePak V_Net data bus, sharing the sensors utilized by the data acquisition system.  The V_Net ID programmed in the gauge’s setup determines which sensor the gauge will display.  This gauge has been factory programmed as shown in the table above.  If you wish to display information from another sensor you will need to program the appropriate V_Net ID for the new sensor.   This is discussed below.

Gauge Installation:

This gauge is designed to mount in a standard 2 5/8-inch cutout.   To install the gauge remove the two knurled nuts securing the back shell to the main gauge housing.  Insert the gauge through the cutout in your dash and replace the back shell securing with the two knurled nuts.  Tighten the knurled nuts by hand as tight as possible.

Each gauge has two identical connectors.  Daisy chain each gauge into the next with the provided jumper cables.  When you get to the last gauge use the tee cable with the blue connector to connect the gauges to the V_Net bus.  Use the plug to cover the connector on the gauge at the other end.  An example using three gauges is shown below.

Connecting an External Alarm Light

Each Intelli-Gauge has user programmable low and high-level alarm limits. When the measured parameter exceeds these limits the Intelli-Gauge can be programmed to flash the alpha display as well as to activate an external warning indicator such as an alarm light.  The back of the gauge has a ¼” male spade lug.  Use the provided female connector to connect this lug to the negative side of your warning light.  Connect the positive side of your warning light to switched battery voltage.

Important Note: Each gauge can drive up to 300 milliamps.  We recommend using only LED style alarm lights due to their relatively low current consumption.

Module Setup:

This gauge has been factory configured as described in the setup box located at the top of the first page.  No further setup is required to begin using the gauge.  You must, however, have installed the appropriate sensor for the gauge to function properly.   If you are using the RacePak DataLink program to configure or upload data using a V300/V500 data logger, you will need to update your car configuration file before you will be able to access the information from this module.

Software Setup and Module Configuration

If you are using this gauge with a V300 or V500 Data Logger you will need to update your Car Configuration File in your PC.  To perform this step you will need to connect the data logger to your PC using the serial interface cable (See the V300/500 instruction manual for details).  Next start the RacePak DataLink program.  If you selected your car configuration file as the default configuration file, the file will be opened and the file tab for the car configuration file will be selected.  If it is not, open your car configuration file by selecting the Open Car Configuration menu item located in the Files main menu selection.

Next apply power to your on board system, wait 10 seconds and select the Read VNET Config menu item located in the Edit main menu selection.  The DataLink program will read in the configuration of your system.  If everything works properly, a new channel button will be added to the configuration file representing this gauge.  Example, the button would be captioned “G Oil PSI” for an oil pressure gauge.  However, if a new button appears named as the serial number printed on the back of the gauge you have two gauges in your system programmed to display, in this example, oil pressure.  In some instances, such as dual cockpits, this may be appropriate and you only need to rename the caption.  More likely however, you have installed one of these gauges to monitor a separate sensor.   In this case you will need to edit the setup parameter and assign the appropriate V_Net ID for the desired sensor as detailed below.

To edit the setup parameters on this gauge, position the mouse cursor over the channel button you wish to edit and click the right mouse button.  The VNET Gauge Channel Parameters dialog box will be displayed.  A Portion of this dialog box is show below.

Locate the box labeled Unit Serial #.  Make sure the serial number is the same as the serial number of the gauge as shown in the gauge configuration box on the opposite side of this installation work sheet.  If it is not, you are not editing the correct gauge.  Check the other channel buttons to locate the correct gauge.

Locate the text box shown to the right.  This text box provides online instructions for modifying the setup of this gauge.  Read the instructions and modify the setup as desired.

When you have finished editing the configuration on your PC, you will need to send the information to the gauge.  Be sure the serial interface cable is connected to the data logger and power is applied to the system.  To send the information position the mouse cursor over the Send Configuration button and click the left mouse button.  The progress box will display.

When finished sending the message “Device Programmed Successfully” should be displayed at the bottom of the progress box.  If you receive an error message, turn power to the system off and then back on and repeat the send configuration process.  If problems persist, check the troubleshooting section in your manual and then contact RacePak.

IMPORTANT:

Save this Installation Worksheet in your System Manual in Appendix V.  This worksheet is part of your system documentation.  You may need this worksheet when modifying or trouble shooting your system.
